Taking Care of Your Teeth During Orthodontic Treatment
Excellent oral hygiene is essential to keep your teeth and gums healthy throughout orthodontic treatment. If you need help choosing the right toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss, please ask us and we can help you select the right products for your teeth and your appliance!
4 Steps to Success
Brush your teeth three times per day, for three minutes per session! Brushing eliminates plaque and prevents decalcification from occurring. Make sure to angle your toothbrush so that it gets around each bracket and under the wire. ClinPro 5000 toothpaste should be used every night, and you can brush with your preferred toothpaste the remainder of the day.
Flossing is also important to maintain good dental hygiene, and it should be done once a day. Threaders will help make flossing your teeth with braces much easier.
Rinse with Crest ProRinse mouthwash two times per day in the morning and after dinner. Crest ProRinse can be purchased in stores.
Use a gum or breath mints that contain XYLITOL four times per day for five to ten minutes after meals. We recommend Epic Gum, but any Xylitol gum or mint can be used as long as the first ingredient on the label is Xylitol.
