WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE FOR SEEING AN ORTHODONTIST?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children have an orthodontic screening by age 7. At our office we offer a free initial consultation and periodic evaluations to determine when/if your child is ready for treatment at no cost to you.
CAN ADULTS GET BRACES?
You're never to old to get braces! More and more adults are correcting their smiles and improving their overall health by getting braces. Today, 20% of all orthodontic patients are adults. Having a beautiful smile can make a difference in your personal and professional life. Straight teeth are also easier to care for, and taking better care of your teeth means less decay and less dental problems. On average an adult can expect to wear braces between 12 and 20 months. Call our office today to schedule and exam with Dr. Siu.
ARE BRACES UNCOMFORTABLE?
There is not a lot of discomfort placing the braces, however, you may experience soreness an hour or two after the braces are placed and may be tender to biting pressure for 3-5 days. The day you get your braces placed we will teach you several ways you can minimize the soreness.
HOW LONG WILL I HAVE TO WEAR MY BRACES?
It depends on the difficulty of your orthodontic problem, but on average, patients with full upper and lower braces take about 20-24 months to correct. Remember that orthodontics is a “team effort.” Your cooperation will definitely speed up or slow down treatment time.
CAN I STILL PLAY SPORTS WITH BRACES?
Certainly- we recommend wearing a mouth guard, but encourage you to continue playing sports.
CAN I STILL PLAY MY INSTRUMENT WITH BRACES?
Yes! On average it takes about a week to adjust to having braces while playing your instrument but we have numerous patients who play a wide variety of instruments.
ARE THERE THINGS I CAN’T EAT WITH MY BRACES?
There is a short list of foods that we ask you to avoid eating while in treatment. You will need to avoid sticky foods like caramel and taffy, hard foods such as nuts, popcorn, and ice, and slice up hard fruits and vegetables. Following these guidelines will avoid broken brackets, which lead to longer treatment time.
HOW MUCH DO BRACES COST?
That will depend on the treatment necessary for your particular case. We realize that braces are a big investment. That is why we will be happy to assist you with payment options, insurance filing, flex plan planning, and anything else to help you with financing. If you would like more specific information on costs, please call our office to set up a free consultation and we will be happy to answer all of your questions.
